Amanda Finchem moved to the Outer Banks in 1995 after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in American Studies. She and her husband, Robert, spent 6 years on Hatteras Island before relocating to the Northern beaches. Together they run Coastland Building Inspections, a successful home inspection business. Amanda has been actively involved in the community, from creating several support groups for pregnant and postpartum women to volunteering at local schools for her two children. After Amanda's daughter fell in love with volleyball during her 7th grade year at First Flight Middle School, Amanda helped found OBX Wave Volleyball Club in 2016. She was mentored by Kelly Ballard, the director of Allegheny Elite, the former travel club on the Outer Banks. Amanda became Club Director in 2017 and has grown the club with developmental teams, regional teams, and a National team in 2021. She thrives on building a successful volleyball club in our rural community. Creating OBX Wave has created a space for Outer Banks girls to improve their skills, learn to be a part of a team, and enjoy playing volleyball.
